This Week’s Giveaway: AppleCheeks covers in Sailor Blue & Eucalyptus

April 20, 2010 at 6:55 am 303 comments

AppleCheeks diaper
So yesterday was an exciting day in the Mothering Grace family, as we found out we’ll be adding a little boy to the mix in September! To celebrate, we’re giving away two covers in AppleCheeks fabulous Sailor Blue & Eucalyptus… but don’t worry, mamas of girls, we’ve found both colors look fabulous on our little Grace. The navy is often the perfect diaper under a dress (it doesn’t even need a cover over it!), and the eucalyptus pairs great with pink! Good luck!

This week’s prize: one AppleCheeks cover in Sailor Blue & one AppleCheeks cover in Eucalyptus, in the size of your choice

Why you want this prize: AppleCheeks envelope covers are the best, and these two shades have been discontinued so they won’t be around for long! This is your last chance to snag these two great colors.

Details: winner will be chosen using a random number generator. Deadline for last “comment” is Friday, April 23, at 9 p.m. PST. Winner to be posted Saturday, April 24, before noon and has 72 hours to claim prize. If no response, a new winner will be selected and announced the next day.

How to enter?

Leave a comment telling me: your best tips for raising boys, or (if you don’t have any) why you love having a girl.

I currently have 2 girls and love having girls because I myself am a girly girl and I can dress them up and do their hair etc. I am also pregnant with our third…this one may be a boy 🙂

My best tip….hmmmm….start reading to him early. Many people say that boys don’t like to read books but my little guy LOVES it. I think it is partly because we started reading to him early!

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I’m not a parent yet, so I’m not sure my tips are useful. I did a stint as a nanny, though, and have eight (!) friends with new babies. I think boys and girls really should be raised the same way – to be respectful of others and the planet, to be kind, and to challenge themselves.

My little guy is only 3 months old but I think one of the best things to do as he gets older is to let boys be boys. Let them run around, get dirty, and make all sorts of little boy sounds. I can’t wait, he’s going to be so much fun!

For my boys(and that’s all I have is little boys!) I try to make sure I show them everything cooking, cleaning, laundry and especially for them to see Daddy helping me. I want them to be skilled at everything and not to depend on a female for everything, that they themselves are quite capable. I absolutely love having boys!

I totally agree with starting reading book to him early our guy didn’t really like it at first and now he is 3 and loves it and he has memorized more than I can count. Also I would say my best secret is putting the potty chair in front of the TV. It was the only way I could get him to stay and relax enough to do it.

Congrats on the news of a boy!!

I am a mother of 2 boys (6 and 7) and a 2 year old girl. My biggest tip for raising boys is teach them caring, compassion and concern for others from the beginning, too many parents out there try too hard to make their boys tough and forget that they need the tenderness and compassion too.

My other tip is make sure the baby’s “pee-pee” is always pointing down in the diaper, you’ll save yourself a ton of clothing changes!

I love having a girl because I can put her in girls OR some boys clothes and it works! She looks great in any color under the rainbow, and I never had any sisters, so it’s fun to have someone to bond with! I was never a girly girl but I’m hoping to give her a balance between girly and tomboy!

I don’t have a boy and I’m the oldest of 7 children, 6 of whom were girls, so girls are kinda my thing. I LOVE raising a little girl probably for the same reason people love raising their little boys. I live my girl because she’s mine. She’s who God gave me and I would love raising her just as much if she were a boy!

It’s also kinda nice to put her in pink, and nice that girls can wear ALL colors while there is a stupid stigma that says boys shouldn’t be seen in pink or purple.

Congratulations!! My oldest is a girl and when I found out #2 was going to be a boy I actually cried :S I was terrified of having a boy and knew what to expect with a girl. Turns out it’s been the most amazing experience. He’s so much more affectionate than my daughter, snuggles so much more. I couldn’t believe it when he was born with a love of wheels/cars/robots, tho hahaha. I thought it was more environmental than that. But it’s been awesome to have an excuse to buy matchbox cars, Transformers, Batman…he’s gotten my daughter into all that stuff, too, which is great since she’s a total girly girl. (He loves to paint his nails pink and wear pigtails, too, just like his big sissy whom he adores.) It’s been such a great balance. I’d hoped for another girl for my daughter with #3, but we’re having another boy so I bet we’re in for a ride. No question he’s also more aggressive and fearless than my daughter, so having a little brother will probably bring out the daredevil.

(Oh, and my daughter peed on the table _every_ time we changed her. Son never did, so we never had an issue with pee getting everywhere–until after potty training, of course 🙂

Congratulations!!! Boys are a lot of fun to play with – Girls are a lot of fun to “dress up”. I don’t think raising boys is very different until it comes to potty-training: I love how easy it is for a little boy to pee anywhere (he doesn’t need to sit on cold and gross public toilets and a bush or a drain in a parking lot works in a pinch). Just remember to say this to him often when he uses the potty, “Point it down,” or you’ll end up with pee all over the bathroom!!

A boy wow , Having a boy is completely different experience then a girl .My first two were boys and although with them I wanted a girl and was hoping for a girl I would not trade them for anything else in the world .Raising two boys is also a lot easier believe it or not , My boys are sweet , caring and loving boys not to mention well behaved. They are always by my side 🙂 my little girl is more independent and does not look back to see where mommy is but my boys always look back .
but the most value piece of advice is steam clean the bathroom as they get older and start potty training and enjoy the sweet moments they have to share

My best training tip for raising boys (and I have 4 boys 6.5,5.5, 3 & 1.5) make sure they learn how to sleep consistently, and make sure they are well rested. A tired boy is hard to teach and is usually accompanied by a migraine!

Congratulations!!! I have three boys – 4 1/2, 2 1/2 and 10 months. It is so much fun. A lot of good advice has been given, especially about the diaper changing. I would also suggest stuffing an extra insert in the front of the diaper. But you probably already know that. LOL Good luck!

What fun! My best tips for raising a boy (since mine is only 5 months old) is to be sure and have a cloth wipe on hand to not get sprayed in the face with diaper changes…and learn to fold those prefolds so there is more coverage up front 🙂

Congratulations!!! That’s so EXCITEING!!!! As you know I don’t have a boy. I have heard from other moms you got to keep extra eye on them they tend to be extra active. My neighbors son tried to drive his race car down the stairs and fractured his arm. With any child you can’t even blink your eyes and they are into something. It’s an adventure. I love Kensie and she’s the best baby….I am truely blessed.

I have a little girl (8 weeks) so I don’t have any tips on parenting boys, obviously. However, I do have younger brothers and I was also a nanny for little boys for many years. The best advise I can think of is to let them feel like little warriors. Always encourage them and tell them they are amazing little men. Let them explore and be loud and rough (outside when the weather is nice is obviously the best setting, haha!) I think boys who were encouraged to be boys (especially by their daddies) grow up to be strong men.

My best tip for raising boys is to love them for who they are and forget about the boy thing. Mine is 20 months old and he loves his play ktichen, nurturing his stuffed animals and pretend play. I’m glad we didn’t get into the stereotyping trap, because we could have missed out on his wonderful personality! 🙂 Congrats!

I guess my best advise (or what has worked for me) is teach them young!! My son climbed up the stairs the day he learned to crawl at 9 months. From that day I have “taught” him to do the things safely that would normally scare the heck out of me (i.e. going up and down stairs, climbing up in chairs). If he learns to do it safely then I am less nervous that he will get hurt! Although it RREAKS other people out!!!

my best advice? I only have 1 boy and he is 4 – but I believe in letting him being a boy – lol! Even that means letting him jump in puddles, dig in dirt, pick up worms, etc (all that stuff that drives me CRAZY!) – but it is him exploring and the way that he enjoys learning – VERY hands on 🙂

we have 2 boys. People aways say dolls are for girls, don’t let your boys play with dolls. I say let your boys play with dolls, they will learn young how to be great dads when they grow up:)

My tip for raising boys is LET THEM BE BOYS! If they want to play in dirt let them. They are so happy with the simple things! :0)

    Congratulations, Sara!!!
I love my little boys so much! I love supporting them in their little boy adventures. The dirt, the sound effects, the trucks, the dinosaurs…
One of my greatest tips along those lines is to have designated “play clothes” that they can do whatever they want in. My husband and sons know that as long as the clothes they trash have been set aside for that purpose, they’ll be no disapproving looks from me! The boys have their own garden where they can both grow things and dig in the dirt, and they have a ball. And they DO get dirty!!! For the REALLY messy stuff, we installed a warm-water hose bib outside. I can strip them down in the back yard and rinse them off with warm water before letting them in my house!!!

    Congratulations! How exciting!

I feel like I’m just learning how to mother a boy as we go along, but my tip so far is just… love him. Kind of trite sounding, but man they grow up fast and become teenagers and need as much love as they can get.
